Abilities Media is a resourceful, comprehensive media program—featuring a website, publications, and digital content—designed to provide entertainment, educational information, community connections, and promotion of special events.
We specialize in enriching and supporting the special needs community.
Abilities Media is dedicated to building a bridge between individuals with disabilities, their families, and their communities. Growing up with disabilities presents many challenges, and Abilities Media creates opportunities for meaningful connection by keeping readers and viewers informed through accessible and up-to-date social platforms.
Our mission is to empower individuals in the special needs community with knowledge, resources, and tools that support employment, independence, confidence, and long-term success.
Abilities Media will also host and fundraisers for inclusive events—such as a special needs prom for ages 16–85, beauty pageants that allow participants’ abilities and beauty to shine, and recognition programs that honor community members and businesses who support Abilities through sponsorship.
Meet Our Amazing CEO: Melanie Ruf
Meet Melanie Ruf, a vibrant and inspiring leader who truly does it all! Not only is she the fantastic CEO of our organization, but she's also a devoted mom to three amazing kids. Her family is full of love and laughter, with four brothers and a sister who's not just family but also her best friend and partner. And let’s not forget about her golden retriever, MeCe, who thinks she runs the show at home!Growing up in the sunny city of San Diego, CA, Melanie has a special spot in her heart for the community she serves. After overcoming physical challenges of her own—like being born with congenital heart failure—she's shown incredible strength. I
n June 2025, she had a heart valve replacement at UC Health in Denver, but a week later, she faced the unexpected with strokes that changed her career path, sparking a renewed passion for abilities.For more than 20 years, Melanie has been passionately dedicated to helping adults with disabilities lead rich and independent lives. She has opened her heart and her home to 18 kids with special and is now the proud adoptive mom of three!
Her house is a joyful whirlwind of love, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos.As a committed advocate in her community, Melanie volunteers for various programs aimed at uplifting individuals with disabilities. Whether it’s at the Hope Prom, therapeutic horse therapy sessions, or adaptive sports events, she’s always ready to lend a hand and make a difference.
Her dedication was recognized in 2019 when she received an award from the Alliance: Colorado Communities United for People with Development Disabilities—a moment she cherishes!Driven by compassion and a big belief in inclusivity, Melanie loves bringing people together and educating her community to ensure everyone can thrive, no matter their abilities. She tirelessly champions opportunities that celebrate strengths, break down barriers, and cultivate understanding among all. With Melanie leading the charge, there’s always a reason to smile!When she’s not busy making a difference, Melanie loves spending time with her golden retriever MeCe, going fishing, and enjoying moments with her sister. With a heart full of love and a drive to inspire, Melanie truly embodies the spirit of community and advocacy!
