Courageous Stories
Matthew Keller
Rolling Forward with Courage (and Lucy’s Treats!)
Matthew Keller has never let life define his limits — he prefers to define his adventures instead.
Born in Grand Junction, Colorado, Matthew was diagnosed with MSL3 at birth, a rare condition that meant his journey would look a little different from most kids’. But from day one, Matthew’s story has been less about challenges and more about determination, creativity, and a whole lot of heart.
As a young student at Grand Junction High School, Matthew navigated life with resilience and support. Through elementary and middle school, he moved around with assistance, keeping up with friends, classes, and the everyday excitement of growing up. Over time, his mobility needs changed, and today Matthew uses a wheelchair — something he sees not as a limitation, but simply another way to keep moving forward.
Behind Matthew every step (and roll) of the way is a strong support team: his mom, dad, and brother, who cheer him on, help him adapt to new challenges, and celebrate every milestone along the journey.
Matthew was an active participant in Challenger Baseball, where teamwork, inclusion, and fun were the main focus. With his parents volunteering alongside him, game days were filled with encouragement, laughter, and community spirit, demonstrating that sports were as much about heart as they were about ability. Currently, Matthew can be found at Mesa Mall, where loud music plays in the background. He enjoys saying hello to everyone he meets!
Now educated at home, Matthew has discovered something many entrepreneurs twice his age are still searching for: a passion project that brings joy to others.
Enter Lucy’s Treats — named after Lucy, Matthew’s beloved dog and constant companion. Inspired by Lucy’s loyal spirit and the happiness she brings to his life, Matthew began making homemade treats and sharing them with the community.
What started as a small idea quickly became a local favorite. You can often find Matthew selling his treats at the Grand Junction farmers' market.
People don’t just come for the treats — they come for Matthew’s humor, kindness, and the positivity he brings wherever he goes. He welcomes visitors like old friends, proving that entrepreneurship doesn’t require standing still — sometimes it rolls forward instead.
His journey hasn’t always been easy. There have been adjustments, new routines, and moments that required extra courage. But Matthew approaches life the same way he approaches his business: with resilience, creativity, and a belief that challenges are simply opportunities wearing disguises.
Today, Matthew Keller is more than a student learning from home. He’s a young entrepreneur, a community inspiration, and a reminder that courage doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful — sometimes it looks like showing up, trying something new, and sharing a little sweetness with the world.
So whether you see him at Challenger Baseball, the farmers market, or walking (or rolling!) through Mesa Mall, one thing is certain:
Matthew Keller is rolling forward — with courage, family by his side, and Lucy cheering him on every step of the way.
